Celebrating bristol in books

Bristol Books is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company formed in 2012 by four people with a passion for Bristol and an ambition to enrich the culture of the city through book publishing.

Our mission is to enrich the culture of Bristol. We celebrate and shine a light on the history of the city, we enable the process of storytelling and bring to life untold stories. We champion working with and nurturing a diverse range of creative talent across the city and beyond. We are driven by our community impact rather than purely by profit.

We pride ourselves on high publishing standards and place a real value on books as physical objects and the important role they play in chronicling and recording the rich heritage and culture of the city, both past and present.

Our company logo incorporates the “B” from the “Bristol scroll”. First introduced to the city more than 100 years ago and familiar to older Bristolians as it was used on the side of Bristol buses. The logo represents the pride we share for the city …

Bristol Books have published books on behalf of many local businesses, community organisations and authors, including: Bristol Cathedral, Mshed, Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (BDAA), Bristol Ideas and Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.

We engage with local authors and historians to help capture the rich culture and heritage of the city and provide a platform for telling untold stories.

From our first publication, Adge Cutler: King of the Wurzels, we have since published more than 50 titles and celebrated our 10th anniversary in 2022 when we were awarded the winner of the Bristol Life Civic Award in recognition of our contribution to the city’s culture and heritage.

Bristol Books are sold in local independent book shops and gift shops alongside major high street book shops. We also help to support local book shops with events and book launches. Our books are also available to purchase online from the Bristol Books website and major online retailers including Amazon.
